qualia occupies the northern tip of Hamilton Island in the Whitsundays, reached by direct flights to the island's own airport. Around sixty pavilions make up the property, adults only, spread along the ridge and the shore with views across the Whitsunday passage. The resort is gated and quiet, and its guests are effectively insulated from the rest of the island — but the island is shared, and the register records that rather than eliding it.

qualia is wrong for guests expecting a private island, since Hamilton carries a town and an airport. It is wrong for families, as the property takes adults only. And it is wrong for travellers wanting reef at the doorstep, which needs a boat from here. Those wanting a genuine private reef island should look at Lizard Island, Orpheus Island Lodge or Pelorus, all three of which hold their islands outright.
