Amanwana
Twenty tents in a Moyo forest reserve, on an island with villages of its own.
Amanwana stands on Moyo, a large island off Sumbawa in Indonesia, reached by helicopter or boat from Bali. Moyo is not a private island: it carries villages, farmland and a hunting reserve, and the camp occupies a bay on its western shore inside a nature reserve. This register places it in the Extended Index for that reason, and states it plainly rather than allowing the Aman name to imply otherwise.
Around twenty tents — canvas over hardwood floors, with proper beds and bathrooms — make up the accommodation. The island's interior holds waterfalls, macaques and deer, and whale sharks pass through the strait seasonally. The camp is one of very few Aman properties that is not a building at all.

Amanwana is wrong for guests expecting a private island, since Moyo has villages and other users. It is wrong for travellers who dislike canvas, insects and open-sided living. And it is wrong for those wanting a spa complex and dining choice at twenty tents. And it is wrong for guests who want a beach to themselves, since the bay is shared with the reserve's other users. Those wanting an Indonesian private island should look at Bawah Reserve or Cempedak.
