3 records, all Norwegian, all above the circle. Ten small buildings on a rock at Fleinvær, a light station on the Atlantic edge, an expedition base in Nordland — the whole region is a category of one in hospitality terms.
These are not resorts and the register does not file them as such. Guests cook, the sauna is the spa, and the programme is kayaking or nothing. The Arctic Hideaway was built by a musician as a place to work, and it is honest about offering little else.
The light is the season. Midnight sun, then a long dark with the aurora in it, and in between a shoulder when the crossing is unreliable and the island is closed.
