Coco Privé Kuda Hithi
An island of one and a half hectares in North Malé Atoll, let to twelve people and nobody else.
Kuda Hithi is one of the smallest islands in the register that operates as a resort at all — 1.4 hectares of sand and palm in North Malé Atoll, 30 kilometres from the airport and reached by the island's own yacht in about forty minutes. There is nothing else on it: no second property, no day boats.
Six villas stand on the island — the Palm Residence and five others — and they are never let separately. The island goes to one party of up to twelve, with about thirty resident staff and a chef who cooks to the party rather than to a menu. The buildings are by the architect Guz Wilkinson.
Six villas and thirty staff. The ratio is the product. Nothing here is scheduled, because there is nobody else to schedule around.
Small enough to cross in minutes. At 1.4 hectares the island is a garden rather than a landscape, which suits a party that came to be together and not a party that came to explore.
Who it is not for
Twelve guests is a hard ceiling, so this is the wrong island for a celebration of any size. It is wrong for divers and naturalists chasing the outer atolls, since North Malé is the busiest water in the Maldives and the horizon is not empty. And it is wrong for a family that wants a children's club, a kids' pool and other children to play with — there are none, and there will be no other guests. Families of that kind should look at Soneva Fushi or Kokomo.
