Manta Island sits inside the Belize Barrier Reef off Placencia, reached by boat, a small caye with one property on it and no other occupants. Glover's Reef and the southern atolls are within reach, and the caye's own reef begins at the dock.
Around eleven cabanas plus a small number of reef villas make up the accommodation, though the property's own pages give different totals in different places and this register records the conflict rather than choosing. The stay is all-inclusive and built around diving, snorkelling and fishing; the island can be taken whole.
Diving from the dock. The house reef removes the boat from most of the week, which changes the rhythm of a stay considerably.
A small island with a buyout option. At this scale a family or a dive group can take the caye entirely, which several Belizean properties now offer.
Who it is not for
Manta Island is wrong for non-divers, since the reef is the proposition and there is little else. It is wrong for guests wanting design or polish, as the property is functional. And it is wrong for those needing a confirmed room type until the inventory conflict is settled. Those wanting Belizean comfort should look at Cayo Espanto or Coco Plum.
