Ray Caye sits inside the Belize Barrier Reef about twenty miles off Placencia, reached by boat, on a caye of some twenty acres with one property on it. Gladden Spit, where whale sharks aggregate around the spring full moons, is close enough for a morning run, and the Silk Cayes are nearby.
Around twelve rooms and villas make up the accommodation, run all-inclusive. The island can be taken whole, which at this size a family or a dive group can realistically do — the register records it under Individual Stays plus Full Buyout for that reason. Diving, fishing and the reef fill the days.
Gladden Spit within reach. The whale shark aggregation is seasonal and unreliable, but when it runs this is one of the closest bases to it.

Ray Caye is wrong for guests wanting design or polish, since the property is functional. It is wrong for non-divers, as the reef is the proposition. And it is wrong for travellers needing connectivity or medical services close by. And it is wrong for guests who want a spa, a gym or a choice of restaurants at twelve rooms. Those wanting Belizean exclusive use should look at Gladden or Royal Belize.
