Thatch Caye sits inside the Belize Barrier Reef about nine miles off Dangriga, reached by boat, on a small caye with one property and no other occupants. The reef is close on several sides and the mainland's jungle is within a day.
Around thirteen cabanas — overwater and on the sand — make up the accommodation, run all-inclusive and largely off-grid on solar with rainwater collection. The island can be taken whole. The property is simple by design: no spa, no gym, no television, and a bar that runs on the honour system.

Those wanting Belizean comfort should look at Cayo Espanto or Coco Plum.
