Tagomago Island

A private island off Ibiza with one house, let whole, twenty minutes from the noise.

Full entry · sources recorded · verification stamp pending

Tagomago is an uninhabited island off the north-east coast of Ibiza, about twenty minutes by boat from Cala San Vicente, covering roughly sixty hectares of scrub, cliff and a lighthouse at its far end. It is privately owned and let to one party at a time; nobody else lands on it during a stay, which in the Balearics in August is close to unobtainable.

A single house with five suites sleeps up to ten guests, with a pool, a staff including a chef and butler, and the island's own boat. The proposition is Ibiza's proximity with none of its exposure: the clubs and restaurants are a short crossing away and entirely invisible from the island.

Ibiza without Ibiza. Twenty minutes from one of the most crowded coastlines in the Mediterranean, and no one can reach you.

A whole Mediterranean island for ten. Genuine private-island rental is almost absent from the Mediterranean, which makes this one of very few points of comparison in Europe.

Who it is not for

Tagomago is wrong for parties larger than ten, since the house stops there. It is wrong for guests wanting a resort's facilities — one house, one pool, one kitchen. And it is wrong for travellers who dislike a boat as the only way in and out. Those wanting a Mediterranean island with a hotel behind it should look at Île de Cavallo or Zannier Île de Bendor.
