Kamalame Cay
A ninety-six-acre Bahamian cay with a small resort and a scatter of private houses on it.
Kamalame Cay lies off Andros in the Bahamas, reached by a short boat crossing after a flight to Andros Town. The cay runs to about ninety-six acres of beach and bush with three miles of shoreline, facing the third-largest barrier reef in the world and backing onto the Andros bonefish flats. The island holds a resort and a number of privately owned houses, which is why this register files it among the societies.
Around twenty-seven rooms, cottages and villas make up the resort, with an overwater spa on a jetty — the only one in the Bahamas — and no telephones or televisions in the rooms. The private owners' houses are let when their owners are away, so the visible inventory changes through the year.

Who it is not for
Kamalame is wrong for guests expecting a polished resort — it is deliberately unpolished and family-run in manner. It is wrong for travellers wanting an island to themselves, since owners and their guests share it. And it is wrong for anyone who needs nightlife or a choice of restaurants. Those wanting exclusive use in the Bahamas should look at Musha Cay or Fowl Cay.
