Little Whale Cay

Little Whale Cay lies in the Berry Islands of the Bahamas, about forty miles north of Nassau, with its own harbour and runway. It was developed from the 1930s and 1940s by Wallace Groves as a private residence, with no commercial activity, and in the 1950s it carried a church, a community hall and about fifty people working on the cay.
Three houses — Little Whale House, Peacock House and Flamingo House — sleep up to twelve in seven bedrooms, and the cay is let whole with a chef. This register holds it as Status Unverified because current ownership and availability could not be confirmed.
A private estate rather than a resort. It was built as one man's home, and the island still reads as somebody's house.
A runway on a small cay. Arrival by light aircraft without touching Nassau is what makes a cay this size practical for a whole-island let.
Who it is not for
Little Whale Cay is wrong for travellers who need a confirmed booking. It is wrong for large groups, given three houses. And it is wrong for guests expecting hotel infrastructure on what is effectively a private estate. And it is wrong for anyone relying on published figures, since none can be confirmed here. Those wanting a documented Bahamian whole-island rental should look at Musha Cay or Over Yonder Cay, both of them operating and described.
