Musha Cay

Musha Cay lies in the southern Exumas and is the residence at the centre of the Islands of Copperfield Bay, a group of around forty islands and cays owned by David Copperfield. Arrival is by private aircraft to a nearby strip and then by boat. Guests have the whole of Musha and, in practice, the run of the surrounding cays — sandbars, beaches and staged follies that are set up and struck for the party in residence.
Five houses stand on the island, holding up to twenty-four guests. They are never let separately: the booking is the island. Staff outnumber guests, meals are cooked to the party rather than to a menu, and the boats, water toys and the surrounding islands are included in the rate.
Theatre is built into the property. The owner is an illusionist, and the island is arranged for staged surprises — dinners on sandbars that appear at low tide, cinema on the beach, follies hidden in the landscape. No other island in the register is designed around that idea.
Forty islands, not one. The archipelago is the real inventory. A week here is spent island-hopping within a private group rather than on a single beach.
Who it is not for
Musha is the wrong island for a quiet couple: the scale, the staging and the rate all assume a full house of twenty-four. It is wrong for travellers who want understatement — the property is theatrical by design and does not apologise for it. And it is wrong for anyone who needs a spa and gym culture, or a resort's dining choice. Couples wanting the Bahamas should look at Fowl Cay or Kamalame Cay.
