Moskito Island
Three estates on a BVI island, let separately, with the whole island available together.
Moskito lies in the North Sound of the British Virgin Islands, near Necker, and belongs to Richard Branson's Virgin Limited Edition. It is a 125-acre island carrying a handful of separate estates rather than a hotel, which is why this register calls it a multi-estate island: there is no reception, no restaurant open to all and no shared inventory.
Three estates — Branson Estate, Point Estate and a third house — are let individually to one party each, with their own staff, pools and beaches, and the whole island can be taken together. Lemurs and flamingos form part of a rewilding programme run across Branson's BVI properties. Neighbours matter here: taking one estate means sharing the island with whoever has the others.
Estate by estate, not room by room. Booking one house on a three-house island is a different proposition from booking a villa in a resort, and guests should understand which one they are buying.
Rewilded alongside Necker. The flamingo and lemur programmes run across both islands, and the ecology is managed as one estate rather than two.
Who it is not for
Moskito is wrong for guests who assume an island booking means the island, unless all three estates are taken. It is wrong for travellers wanting hotel infrastructure — restaurants, a spa, a front desk — none of which exists. And it is wrong for those who want anonymity, given the island's public ownership story. Those wanting a single-party island should look at Necker or Calivigny.
