Club Med Seychelles
The only resort on Sainte Anne, at a scale and price the rest of this register does not work at.
Sainte Anne is a granite island in the Sainte Anne Marine National Park, a few kilometres from Victoria on Mahé and reached by boat in about ten minutes. One resort occupies the island, which technically satisfies the formula this register measures against. It is held in the Extended Index all the same, because the product — an all-inclusive family club at several hundred rooms — sits at a different point of the market from everything around it, and the register should say so rather than imply an equivalence.
The island is large and green, with five beaches and a marine park offshore that limits fishing and traffic. The resort was rebuilt and reopened under Club Med after an earlier hotel on the same site, and it works as a Seychelles introduction for families who would not otherwise reach the country.
One resort, one island, at volume. The formula holds even at this scale, which is a useful reminder that the formula alone does not describe a property.
A marine national park offshore. The protected water around Sainte Anne is the island's most durable asset and predates every hotel that has stood on it.
Who it is not for
Club Med Seychelles is wrong for travellers expecting the intimacy the rest of this register describes — this is a large club resort. It is wrong for guests wanting a remote Seychelles, since Victoria is ten minutes away. And it is wrong for those who dislike programmed activity, which is the format. Those wanting a private Seychelles island should look at North Island, Cousine or Fregate.
