Isola Isca
A small island off Massa Lubrense, let whole, sold under three names by as many agents.
Isca lies off Massa Lubrense at the tip of the Sorrento peninsula, inside the Punta Campanella Marine Protected Area, reached only by boat. The island carries Roman nymphaeums and a hydraulic system dated between the first and fifth centuries, and in the twentieth century it was the retreat of the playwright Eduardo De Filippo.
It is let whole, for up to twelve guests, with a staff on the island. Agents describe the villa as six bedrooms; the estate agent handling the rental gives eight bedrooms and twelve bathrooms on 2.56 hectares. The register publishes neither figure as settled.
One island, three names. Isca is marketed as Isolaria and as Villa Lubrense. This register carried it twice, as two records, until the names were read against one another; the second code is withdrawn and points here.
Inside a marine reserve. The water around Isca belongs to the Punta Campanella protected area, which sets what may be done in it.
Who it is not for
This is wrong for a party larger than twelve, which the island does not extend to hold. It is wrong for anyone who wants a beach, since the island is rock and terrace. And it is wrong for travellers who want the Amalfi towns on foot: everything beyond the island is reached by boat. Those wanting the same coast with a town at the door should stay on the mainland.
