Shura Island

Shura is a large island in the Saudi Red Sea, the centrepiece of the Red Sea destination, connected to the mainland by a causeway and planned to carry a dozen or more hotels from different operators along its shore. It is not a private-island resort and this register does not treat it as one: it is a parent record, held so that its constituent hotels can be filed beneath it rather than each claiming an island of its own.

The island is being developed under an environmental framework that caps keys across the whole destination and protects the surrounding reefs. Individual properties on Shura will each carry their own entry once open and verified. This record is not counted in the register's totals.

A parent record exists to prevent a lie. Twelve hotels on one island is the opposite of one island, one resort, and giving each of them an island entry would misdescribe every one.

The reefs are the constraint. Development here is bounded by marine protection rules rather than by land, which is unusual and worth watching.
