Fort Morgan Cay

A Honduran cay off Roatán with a fortified house on it, and its letting status unconfirmed.

Full entry · sources recorded · verification stamp pending

Fort Morgan Cay lies off Roatán in the Bay Islands of Honduras, inside the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef, reached by boat. The cay is small and carries a single fortified residence, built in a style that gives the island its name, with the reef immediately offshore and Roatán's dive infrastructure within reach.

This register holds the entry as Status Unverified. Whether the island is currently let, on what terms and by whom could not be established from open sources, and nothing about capacity or rates should be inferred from this record. It is kept because the cay is a genuine private island in a region with very few of them.

A fortified house on a reef cay. The architecture is unusual for the Caribbean and is the reason the island is remembered rather than the accommodation it offers.

The reef is the constant. Whatever the letting position, the Mesoamerican reef around Roatán is documented and does not depend on the property.

Who it is not for

Fort Morgan Cay is wrong for any traveller who needs certainty about what is available. It is wrong for guests wanting hotel service, given the single-residence model. And it is wrong for those who need a spa, dining choice or organised activity. Those wanting a confirmed Honduran island should look at Dunbar Rock, with the caveat that it is a dive lodge.
