Bedarra Island Resort

Bedarra lies in the Family Islands group off Mission Beach in north Queensland, reached by helicopter or boat, and covers about a hundred hectares of dense rainforest with several small beaches. One resort occupies it. The island's forest is the main feature: villas are hidden in it rather than lined along the sand.
Twelve villas make up the property, adults only, with a maximum of twenty-four guests. The stay is all-inclusive down to an open bar guests serve themselves, which is the property's long-standing signature. Cyclones have closed and reopened it more than once; the current buildings post-date the most recent rebuild.

And it is wrong for those seeking outer-reef diving from the doorstep, which needs a boat trip. And it is wrong for travellers who need a short, simple journey from a capital city. Families should look at Lizard Island; divers should look at Orpheus Island Lodge or Heron.
