Kudadoo Maldives Private Island

Fifteen residences under one solar roof, with an all-inclusive that actually includes the spa.

Full entry · sources recorded · verification stamp pending

Kudadoo sits in Lhaviyani Atoll, about forty minutes by seaplane from Malé. One resort occupies the island, and its central pavilion is covered by a single sweeping solar canopy — nearly a thousand panels — that supplies the property's power. The island is small; the fifteen residences are all over water, reached by a curving jetty.

The model is the distinguishing feature: everything is included. Not only food and drink but spa treatments, excursions, diving and most of what is normally billed at the end. The architecture is by Yuji Yamazaki, and the property is adults-oriented in character. Each residence has a pool and a personal butler, and the island can be taken whole.

All-inclusive at the top of the market. Very few properties at this level attempt it, because it removes the incentive to upsell. Kudadoo built the whole product around the removal.

The roof is the building. The solar canopy is not a retrofitted array but the structural gesture of the property, and it makes the island's energy position legible at a glance rather than a line in a report.

Who it is not for

Kudadoo is wrong for families with young children — there is no kids' club and the residences are over water. It is wrong for guests who want a beach villa, sand underfoot and a garden, because none exists here. And it is wrong for travellers who want choice: one island, one kitchen, fifteen residences and a short jetty is the entire geography. Families should look at Soneva Fushi; those wanting a beach island at similar scale should look at The Nautilus.
