Adults Only

No children, by policy or by design.

14 islands with no children, by policy or by design. The register distinguishes the two and so should the reader. A written policy is enforceable and survives a change of management; a design that happens to deter families — one restaurant, deep water at the shoreline, no shade — does not.

The honest reason most of these exist is acoustic. On a small island there is no distance: a children's club three hundred metres away is audible, and a property that promises quiet at eleven villas has to choose. Several here made the choice explicitly and lost the family market for it.

The record says which kind each one is, and where a minimum age applies it gives the number rather than the phrase.

Not for multigenerational parties, obviously — but also not for couples who dislike the atmosphere that follows from an adults-only rule, which on some islands is quieter than expected and on others is a bar scene.
