A whole island in the Venetian lagoon, sixteen minutes by private boat from San Marco.
Isola delle Rose lies in the Venetian lagoon, reached only by the hotel's own boat from near San Marco — a crossing of about twenty minutes. The island is artificial, built from channel dredgings in the 1860s, and was used first for fuel storage and then, from the 1900s, as a hospital for contagious and later respiratory disease. The clinic closed in the 1980s. The island now carries forty acres of gardens, a century-old olive grove of about a hundred trees, and a rooftop infinity pool looking back at Venice.
The resort opened in 2015 with 266 rooms and suites, which makes it one of the largest properties in this register. There is a spa, a cooking school, several restaurants and bicycles for the island's paths. It sits at P1: the lagoon is public water, boats pass constantly, and non-residents may visit the island. The scale and the shuttle make it a base for Venice rather than a retreat from it.
Venice without staying in Venice. Guests get space, garden and quiet at night, and the city on demand by boat. In August that difference is substantial.

This is wrong for guests wanting a private island in the usual sense — it is a large urban resort in a busy lagoon. It is wrong for travellers who want to walk out into Venice at midnight, since the boat sets the schedule. And it is wrong for those seeking intimacy at 266 rooms.
