Four Seasons Resort Bora Bora

The resort occupies Motu Tehotu, a private motu on the barrier reef of Bora Bora, reached by boat from the airport. It has the island's defining view — Mount Otemanu across the lagoon — and the motu is entirely the property's, though the lagoon around it is public water shared with other resorts, boats and the town of Vaitape. That is the practical limit of privacy here and the register records it.

Around 108 overwater bungalows and beachfront villas make up the property, with a lagoon sanctuary the resort maintains as a nursery and snorkelling area, several restaurants and a spa on its own islet. It is among the larger properties in French Polynesia and works as a family resort as much as a honeymoon one.

A motu of its own on a busy lagoon. The land is private; the water is not. In Bora Bora that distinction is the whole of what a resort can and cannot promise.

The Otemanu view is the asset. The motu was chosen for the angle, and the villas are arranged to hold it.
