Niyama occupies two islands in Dhaalu Atoll, reached by seaplane from Malé. The islands are named Play and Chill and are joined by a bridge and a boat service: Play carries the families, the water sports and the noise; Chill carries the couples and the quiet. It is the clearest expression in this register of a resort splitting its guests by temperament rather than by room category.
Around 134 villas hold the property. Subsix, an underwater venue reached by boat and descended into by steps, works as a restaurant by day and a club by night — one of very few underwater rooms in the world built for volume rather than for two people. Treetop dining, a surf break and a substantial children's programme fill the rest.
Guests sorted by island, not by floor. Two islands allow a resort to serve families and couples properly at the same time, which single-island properties can only fake.

Who it is not for
Niyama is wrong for guests seeking a small island — 134 villas across two islands is a large resort with movement between them. It is wrong for travellers wanting restraint, since the property is designed to entertain. And it is wrong for anyone who wants total quiet, because even Chill sits within reach of Play. Those wanting silence should look at Soneva Secret or Kudadoo.
