San Clemente Palace Kempinski Venice

San Clemente is an island in the Venetian lagoon, ten minutes by private boat from San Marco, carrying a monastery complex that later served as a quarantine station and then as a psychiatric hospital before its conversion to a hotel. Under Kempinski management the property ran as San Clemente Palace Kempinski Venice, with around 190 rooms and suites, gardens, a swimming pool and a church on the island.

That management arrangement ended, and the property now operates under its own name as San Clemente Palace Venice, held as a separate entry in this register. The rule is deliberate: a change of operator produces a new record rather than an edit to the old one, because the earlier hotel existed, was reviewed and was booked under a name that no longer applies.

Closed as a record, not as a building. The island still operates. What closed was the Kempinski chapter, and this entry exists so that the earlier name resolves to something rather than to nothing.

A hospital island reused twice. Quarantine station, asylum, hotel — the buildings have outlived three purposes and kept their plan through all of them.
