The resort stands on a private motu on the rim of Tikehau, a coral atoll in the Tuamotu archipelago, reached by flight from Papeete. Tikehau is a near-circular atoll with pink-sand beaches and a lagoon that Jacques Cousteau's team surveyed and found exceptionally rich in fish — a finding the atoll has traded on ever since and which still shapes the diving.
Around thirty-seven bungalows, overwater and on the beach, make up the property under Pearl Resorts. The atoll has a small village and a handful of pensions elsewhere on its rim; the motu itself carries only this resort. The diving at the Tuheiava pass is the principal draw.
