Elang Private Residence (Bawah Reserve)
A private island inside a six-island reserve, with its own staff and its own beach.
Elang occupies its own island within Bawah Reserve in the Anambas archipelago of Indonesia, reached by seaplane from Batam after a ferry from Singapore. The reserve holds six islands and three lagoons under one ownership; Elang is the only one besides the main island with accommodation on it, and it is let to a single party. The surrounding water is a marine conservation area with its own ranger team.
The residence holds several bedrooms with a pool, a private beach and dedicated staff including a chef, while guests keep access to the reserve's restaurants, spa and boats. Like the rest of Bawah it was built by hand in bamboo and reclaimed timber without heavy machinery.

Handmade, like its parent. The building method was the same as the main island's — carried, shaped and assembled without machines — which constrains the architecture and defines the look.
Who it is not for
Elang is wrong for guests who need reliable connectivity or a short journey, since Bawah is deliberately weak on both. It is wrong for parties larger than the residence holds, who would have to split across the reserve. And it is wrong for those wanting polished finishes, given the handmade construction.
